TasTAFE System Upgrades

Important update: Changes coming to your TasTAFE login (Including Learning Management Systems)

We want to tell you about an important upcoming change to how you log into TasTAFE's online services. This includes:

  • Canvas
  • TasTAFE Email (Outlook)
  • Microsoft 365 Tools (Teams, OneDrive, etc.)
  • campus computers
  • Industry-specific learning systems (like CDX, Didasko, etc.); and
  • the Learner Portal.

What's changing for you? Your login details

Your username and password for accessing TasTAFE systems will change after the upgrade.

  1. Username:
    • NOW: You log in with a username ending in @education.tas.edu.au
    • Password:
      • NOW: Keep using your current password right up until the changeover begins.
      • AFTER the change: You will need to set a new password the first time you log in after the upgrade. You'll do this using the 'Forgot Password?' link on the login screen.

When is this happening? Important dates and system downtime

  • The upgrade period: The change will happen over the Easter long weekend, starting from the evening of Thursday 17 April 17 through to Tuesday 22 April 22 2025.
  • !! CRITICAL: System downtime !! During this upgrade period (from Thursday evening 17 April to Tuesday 22 April), most TasTAFE online systems including your TasTAFE email, Teams, OneDrive,and the Learner Portal will be UNAVAILABLE.
    • Action: Please plan ahead! Download any course materials, notes, or assignments you might need from Canvas or OneDrive before Thursday 17 April .
  • Canvas: Canvas will continue to be available over this time until 10pm Monday 21 April until 8am Tuesday 22 April.

What You MUST DO NOW

There's 1 important thing you need to do as soon as possible:

  1. Check and update your contact details
    • Why? After the upgrade, you'll need to reset your password. The password reset process uses the mobile number OR personal email address we have registered for you. If these aren't up to date, you won't be able to set your new password easily.
    • How? Please log into the Learner Portal and make sure your mobile number and personal email address listed there are correct.

What to expect AFTER Tuesday 22 April

  • You will use your NEW username (ending in @student.tafe.tas.edu.au) to log in.
  • You will use the 'Forgot Password?' link to set your new password (using the contact details you checked/updated in the Learner Portal).
  • Look out for the detailed guides we'll send you.

We know changes can be confusing, and we're here to help make it smooth.

  • How-to?: We are preparing guides and short video guides to show you exactly how to log in after the change.
  • On-campus support: After the Easter break, special support desks will be available at campus taypani locations and libraries to help you if you have trouble logging in.
  • Help Desk: If you still have issues after checking the guides, you can call our Contact Centre on 1300 655 307 for assistance.

In summary: What to do now

  1. Keep logging in as usual until Thursday 17 April.
  2. Most importantly: Log into the Learner Portal now and check/update your mobile number and personal email address.
  3. Plan ahead: Remember systems like Canvas will be down over Easter (17 – 22 April), so download anything you need beforehand.

We're upgrading our main IT systems. This upgrade is essential to improve security, make systems run more smoothly, and allow us to offer better digital tools for your learning in the future – it’s a positive step to improve your digital learning experience at TasTAFE.
