Develop the skills and knowledge you need to confidently speak, read and write English.
This nationally recognised qualification is designed for people from a language background other than English who have English as a second or additional language at a pre-intermediate level. It is a fee free course for eligible Tasmanian residents.
In this course, you’ll develop the English skills you need to start job seeking, engage in basic spoken conversations, carry out spoken tasks such as making/changing appointments, applying for jobs and shopping transactions and read and write basic texts such as forms, notes, emails, stories, and information texts.
Your learning will be based around ‘settlement themes’ to help you gain an understanding about things like Australia’s health system, housing, news/current affairs, numeracy, the Australian community and how to be work ready.
In this course you will undertake different types of activities including role plays, class discussions and listening to guest speakers, as well as using audio-visual resources (iPads, DVDs, CDs, etc.), and technology assisted language learning to practice your English.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in excursions into local areas, providing you with practical experiences to apply and build on your knowledge and confidence in a new environment.
Note: This course is fully subsidised for permanent residents from a non-English speaking background. You may be eligible for the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).
