This qualification is designed to meet the needs of supervisors or team leaders working in the Agriculture industry, and will enable you to develop post-trade specialist skills and knowledge within the sector. If you are currently working in Agriculture at a supervisory level and want to gain a qualification, or if you have completed some units of the Certificate III in Agriculture or Certificate IV in Agriculture and are now looking to gain the entire qualification, this is the course for you.
Through a mixture of theory and practical course work you will learn to:
- Supervise work routines and staff performance
- Breed livestock based on genetics for production
- Sample, interpret and amend soil composition for crop success
- Use ethical and environmentally sustainable agriculture practices
- Maintain work health and safety processes
- Keep financial records and budgets
- Implement Irrigation scheduling routines
- Manage pastures for livestock production
This course is offered in a workshop style format where you will attend workshops relevant to your development needs across a broad range of topics. Based at TasTAFEs’ Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence, the 2-day workshops are held every four to six weeks and include a range of industry experts, contemporary learning resources and reference materials, and quality take home tools in a format that suits people who have access to a rural business. Students without relevant employment or access to an appropriate workplace environment, are asked to contact TasTAFE to arrange access to TasTAFE or case study properties.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to work effectively in a supervisory role within the Agricultural sector. You will have the skills you need to take responsibility for both your own work and for the quality of the work of others, as well as problem-solve a range of issues across different industry sectors.
You may also wish to continue your study and undertake further training at TasTAFE at Diploma level.
This course is also available as an Australian Apprenticeship.
