Take the first steps towards getting started in your Automotive career with this entry-level pre-employment course in Automotive Vocational Preparation, and get the basic skills you need to seek employment within the automotive mechanical or autobody repair industry.

This qualification has two focus areas: Mechanical and Autobody (vehicle body repairs and vehicle body refinishing).

If you are interested in the Autobody focus (vehicle body repairs and vehicle body refinishing), the course at our Devonport Campus is recommended.

Both focus areas of this Certificate II-level qualification are designed to give you the basic skills and experience you’ll need to prepare for employment within the Automotive retail, service and repair industry – including cars and light commercial vehicles, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, and motorcycles.

The course is ideal if you are looking to begin a career within the Automotive industry – or if you want to get some basic skills and find out what it is like to work as a Mechanic before looking for an apprenticeship.

In this course, you will have the opportunity to learn basic skills in vehicle servicing and maintenance, or how to undertake repairs to vehicle body panels (depending on your focus). You will also learn how to communicate effectively in an Automotive workplace, follow safe working practices and resolve routine problems, as well as identify automotive electrical systems and components, mechanical systems and components, and how to use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace.

On successful completion of this course, you will have developed the skills and knowledge you need to perform a range of tasks working with cars and heavy vehicles within an automotive service and repair or autobody business. You’ll also have the confidence you need to seek employment as an apprentice or trainee.

This course is a pathway to an Australian Apprenticeship.
