Further your career as a Building Designer and develop a comprehensive understanding of how buildings are designed and communicated through drawings and documentation.

The Diploma of Building Design builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the Certificate IV in Residential Drafting to train students to become Building Designers. Industry demands skilled entrants into the workforce to design and document residential and commercial buildings.

Building Designers prepare designs in response to client briefs, site conditions and compliance frameworks to ensure that a building project achieves the best outcome for their client.

This Diploma reflects the role of Building Designers who apply their skills to diverse building design projects. Practitioners further develop their drafting expertise and design capabilities to design, draft and document plans, specifications and documentation for buildings of all classifications, as defined in the NCC, to a maximum floor area of 2,000m², excluding those of Type A construction.

The course provides an integrated knowledge of construction systems and design processes, as they pertain to building design, the skills required in the preparation of design documentation, as well as an understanding of the legal and administrative processes necessary in achieving the desired outcomes for residential and commercial, public or industrial projects including new buildings and renovations.

Your work will entail collaborating with other industry professionals both within and externally to your office environment such as tradespersons, engineers, council, consultants and clients.
