Advance your career in Dental Assisting with this qualification specialising in dental assisting radiography.

If you are already working as a Dental Assistant and have successfully completed Certificate III level studies in this field (refer to Entry Requirements), this course is ideal to take your career to the next level! Equip yourself with the skills and knowledge you need to step up and provide advanced assistance to dental practitioners, contributing to high quality oral health care.

In this course, you will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of maintaining health and safety, including how to manage sterile stock and monitor sterilising loads. You will learn how to inform and support patients or groups about oral health and provide practical demonstrations and instruction of oral hygiene practices and techniques.

With a focus on radiography, this course requires you to have access to radiographic equipment suitable for taking intraoral (OPG) and extraoral images. You will gain the skills and knowledge you need to interpret imaging requests and correctly position a patient for a clinical photograph or dental radiographic image. Learn how to prepare and expose a clinical photograph and prescribed dental radiographic image, including selecting and preparing the appropriate imaging equipment and accessories. Importantly, this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to correctly and safely operate radiographic imaging equipment to produce prescribed intraoral and extraoral images.

Course delivery includes a combination of on-the-job training, two face-to-face workshops and online learning. This course is available as an Australian Apprenticeship.

On successful completion of this qualification, you will hold a strong set of skills and knowledge to progress your career in Dental Assisting and other related Oral Health fields of study. It will also prepare you for further study in a related area such as nursing or allied health.
