Take your Science career to the next level with this advanced Laboratory Technologies qualification.
This practical, hands-on course is designed to give you the skills you need to seek work in a Laboratory environment, and is also ideal if you have a strong scientific background, are a university graduate seeking practical laboratory training, or if you are an existing laboratory worker looking to either gain a formal qualification for the work you already do, or have already undertaken some units and are now seeking to complete an entire qualification.
This course is also ideal if you are looking to get introductory Science training as a pre-course before you begin further studies at university, or if you just want to undertake one or more units as professional development without gaining the full qualification.
Our specialist Laboratory Operations teachers will guide you through the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to apply a range of laboratory technologies to conduct scientific-technical tests and sampling in most industry sectors.
You’ll learn how to process and interpret data, analyse data, report results and use laboratory application software, as well as how to maintain and calibrate instruments and equipment, and monitor the quality of test results and data.
You’ll also get the opportunity to develop your practical skills through both the simulated laboratory environment at TasTAFE and industry work placement/s where you can gain vocational experience as well as build your networks within the laboratory industry.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the practical skills and knowledge you need to be employed as a Laboratory Technical Officer in a wide range of manufacturing industries including food, mineral or paper production or in service industries such as medical, government, research and school laboratories. You may also like to undertake further study and use this qualification as a pathway to negotiate articulation to a related university course.
