Hairdressing Salon Assistants are employed to assist in the running of hairdressing salons and perform general duties such as welcoming clients, making appointments and undertaking general housekeeping and cleaning duties to keep the salon tidy.
This course is a pre-vocational preparatory course designed to help you get the entry-level, practical skills and experience you need to work as a Salon Assistant.
Delivered in one of TasTAFE’s three commercially operated salons, this course will equip you with the skills you need to communicate effectively in the workplace, interact with clients and provide high level customer service. You’ll also learn how to provide assistance to Hairdressing colleagues.
In this course, you’ll get an overview of the hairdressing industry and lots of opportunities to acquire practical skills in undertaking routine hairdressing tasks under direct supervision from a Senior Hairdresser or Stylist. You’ll gain valuable experiencing in greeting and preparing clients for salon services, shampooing and drying hair to shape, and developing your knowledge of the hairdressing industry and relevant workplace safety procedures. You’ll also get experience in conducting salon financial transactions and contributing to your own and others’ health and safety through maintaining and organising tools, equipment and work areas.
Throughout the course, you will also learn how to provide head, neck and shoulder massages you’re your clients, and how to recommend products and services, as well as produce visual merchandising displays.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and experience you need to seek employment as a Salon Assistant, or begin further study towards becoming a qualified Hairdresser. You may like to explore your options for gaining an Apprenticeship or go on to study SHB30416 – Certificate III in Hairdressing.
