Participants must be aligned with one of the following industries (or related sectors) AND hold a relevant trade qualification to be eligible to participate in this program:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Civil Construction
- Automotive
- Plumbing (including Gas, Polymer Processing etc.)
- Electrotechnology
Upon being selected for the Program, you will need to submit an application that includes:
- evidence of vocational competency in the area in which you intend to teach i.e. Certificate IV in Engineering
- provide your resume showing your experience using this qualification
- undertaking the TasTAFE language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) Assessment achieving an ACSF level 3 or higher
You may also be required to attend a short online interview to confirm your vocational competency and currency, as well as your understanding of the completion requirements of the course. It is also recommended you discuss this opportunity with your employer and have their support to participate in the program.
The fee you pay at TasTAFE will depend on the course you choose and may vary depending on the level of government subsidy available, the cost of delivery, any previous study you have undertaken and/or your personal circumstances. Tuition fees for this course are available at the top of the page via

Your tuition fees cover the basic materials needed for your course, but may not cover items such as text books, workbooks, uniform, online learning resources or personal protective clothing. Depending on your course, there may also be other expenses that you need to budget for.

The Developing Industry Trainers Program is supported by the Tasmanian Government through the Department of State Growth and is funded by the Australian Government as part of Energising Tasmania.
For courses undertaken in 12 months or less, you will be invoiced the full course fee (including any other essential fees associated with your course).
*For courses studied over multiple years, your course and other fees will be split over the years of study, with the concession fee being charged on a yearly basis. At the time of enrolment you will be invoiced for the first year’s fees. An invoice will be raised in each subsequent year around the same time as your ‘enrolment anniversary’.

You will gather and develop the evidence required in a suitable training and assessment environment in your own workplace or a registered training organisation (RTO), using real work activities. Assessment evidence will be obtained and prepared outside of learning times.
You will be provided with detailed assessments once you have commenced the course. For further information on assessment requirements please see the information pack.

Digital literacy skills to meet training and assessment requirements, including:
- word processing skills such as saving, filing and retrieving documents, typing in templates
- basic presentation programs such as PowerPoint
- using TasTAFE’s Learning Management System (Canvas)
- using communication tools such as email, Zoom and MS Teams
- navigating online to undertake research
Language, literacy and numeracy skills to meet training and assessment requirements including:
- researching, reading and interpreting of National Training Packages
- developing and reviewing assessment instruments, as well as planning, conducting and validating assessments
- delivery of one-on-one, group-based and practical work-based training
- presenting in a number of contexts using a range of skills
- writing a range of documents
- receiving and providing feedback to peers and learners
- conducting assessments, presentations and training, including being observed.
There are different requirements depending on the course you are enrolled in.
Generally, it is recommended that you have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection and up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. TasTAFE has computers available for student use during normal business hours, at all major campuses.
For classes, please be prepared with standard items such as: pens, notebook or paper, USB.
