Plumbing teacher and learner in action

TasTAFE and the Master Plumbers Association of Tasmania have joined forces on a set of exciting new initiatives designed to support current and future tradespeople.

The initiatives focus on responding to the evolving needs of the industry while providing an opportunity for employers to actively engage with TasTAFE in taking their plumbing training program to the next level.

Supported by the Tasmanian Government’s High-Vis Army Program, the initiatives include recruiting an Industry Engagement Officer. This role will work to increase workforce awareness, attraction and retention in Tasmania’s plumbing industry, focusing on coordinating work placements, promoting apprenticeships, and connecting industry with learners.

In addition, an Industry Expert Program will offer employers a valuable opportunity to engage with TasTAFE learners and staff. The Program will overlay contemporary industry subject matter expertise with training delivery, providing TasTAFE learners with greater exposure to the plumbing industry.

Master Plumbers Association of Tasmania Executive Officer, Angela Bennett says it’s an exciting opportunity.

“We’re pleased to extend our strong working relationship with TasTAFE to ensure our industry receives training that aligns with current and future demands.

“Attracting and retaining the right talent is crucial for our future, and we believe these initiatives will play a pivotal role in shaping a skilled workforce,” Ms Bennett said.

TasTAFE CEO, Grant Dreher echoes the excitement surrounding the partnership.

“With the ongoing investment in Tasmania’s building and construction sector, it’s more important than ever for industry and TasTAFE to collaborate closely.

“It’s a great extension of the work we’re already doing with the other High-Vis Army partners.

“TasTAFE is eager to work alongside the Master Plumbers to deliver these exciting initiatives and continue aligning our training with industry needs,” Mr Dreher said.

The Industry Engagement Officer role is now being advertised.
