TasTAFE is thrilled to have won 2 awards at the Victoria and Tasmania Welding Excellence Awards, held in Melbourne on 6 November.

Hosted by Weld Australia, the peak body representing the welding industry in Australia, the Excellence Awards celebrate the skills and professionalism of the industry’s top welders, fabricators and educators.

Geoff Crittenden, CEO of Weld Australia, said, “The 2024 Welding Excellence Awards showcase the exceptional talent of welders and fabricators across Victoria and Tasmania. We are excited to honour both individuals and businesses who are driving advancements in welding through their commitment to quality, safety and innovation.

“The winners this year embody the pursuit of cutting-edge, sustainable solutions that enhance project outcomes while reducing risks, alongside initiatives that broaden and deepen the skilled workforce within the welding sector.”

TasTAFE won the 2024 Training and Education – Organisation Award for Tasmania. We were recognised for an educational model that places learners’ needs and industry requirements at the centre of delivery, with the ability to quickly develop programs to help businesses expand. Simon Bailey – TasTAFE Metals Education Manager, Metals Trades – was in Melbourne to collect the award.

TasTAFE Metals teacher, Michael Schnackenberg, took home the 2024 Training and Education – Individual Teacher Award for Tasmania. Michael has many years of trade experience, with a passion and enthusiasm for teaching that inspires and engages learners.

This award comes on the back of Michael’s recent trip to Lyon in France, where he was a metals judge and mentor at the 47th WorldSkills International Championships – the biggest skills competition on the planet.

International experts like Michael were selected for representing the best of their industry or skill category – another great win for Michael, and for TasTAFE. Find out more about Michael’s time in France.

Congratulations to Michael and the TasTAFE Metals and Manufacturing team on the Weld Australia awards – you are worthy winners.
