TasTAFE offers a wide range of Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma level qualifications that are nationally recognised – as well as short courses, skill sets, apprenticeships and traineeships.

We have over 200 courses on offer and provide training on campus, in the workplace, in the community and online. Some courses may require up to three years of study, while others might simply be a skills update that only lasts an afternoon or evening… so there’s every chance we will have something to suit you and your career goals!

Read the information carefully to make sure the course you are looking at meets your needs and abilities. Make sure you understand information relating to entry requirements and eligibility criteria/desirable skills and attributes and note any important dates for information days or the selection process for your course.

Come along to Info Week

We encourage you to come and visit during one of our INFO Weeks to hear more about the course/s that interest you. INFO Week is a great chance to come along to one of our campuses, meet our teachers and ask questions before you apply. INFO Weeks are held in May and November each year - keep an eye on our website for details.

We also have other events throughout the year – like our Apprenticeship Expos – which can provide information about other pathways and career options that might be of interest.

You might also be interested to know that some TasTAFE qualifications can help you to gain entry into university. Many of our Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications provide credit into University of Tasmania degree courses. Talk to us today to find out more.

Check course entry requirements

At TasTAFE we provide a range of training programs with varying entry requirements. These requirements are the minimum qualification, skills, knowledge, experience or personal attributes you’ll need to successfully complete the course. They may also be legislative requirements.

Some courses don’t have entry requirements, but others have essential entry requirements and are listed in the course information on our website.

Entry requirements may include skills in areas such as reading, writing, maths and IT, but may also take into account any previous qualifications and prior learning. Some courses will also require you to hold a specific licence or satisfy a police check, or relate to your ability to work long hours standing on your feet or undertake extended periods of manual handling. So make sure you read the course information carefully to see if the course will suit your interests and abilities.

Also pay attention to any additional equipment that may be required for this course – this might include a toolbox or specialist personal protective clothing such as steel capped boots.

What to do if you don’t meet the entry requirements?

If you are not able to gain entry to your preferred course because you need to develop your skills further, then you may have the option of enrolling in alternative programs including our Vocational Preparation program where our teachers will assist you to further develop your skills. This may help you to gain entry to your preferred course in the future.
